Marketing vs Advertising vs Sales

I want to make some kind of distinction between marketing, advertising and sales, because they are related to each other but different.


Marketing – is what you do to attract potential customers or clients and tell them about what your products and services. The process associated with promoting for sale goods or services. It is considered a "social and managerial process by which individuals and groups obtain what they need and want through creating and exchanging products and values with others." It is an integrated process through which companies create value for customers and build strong customer relationships in order to capture value from customers in return.



Advertising – is part of marketing getting the word out about your company and what it offers. The activity of attracting public attention to a product or business, as by paid announcements in the print, broadcast, or electronic media. It's also a form of communication used to influence individuals to purchase products or services or support political candidates or ideas


Sales – is the next step in making a deal with the customers or clients. It's the act of meeting prospective buyers and providing them with a product or service in turn of money or other required compensation. An act of completion of a commercial activity. The "deal is closed", means the customer has consented to the proposed product or service by making full or partial payment to the seller.
